Duncan Dewar (1801-1868) was the son of a crofter, Duncan Dewar, at Ballinlaggan, Kenmore. He studied at the United College of St Andrews University from 1819 to 1923, and then spent a further 4 years studying divinity at St Mary's College. He was licensed by Dunkeld presbytery and spent his working life as minister of Dull, from 1839 until his death in 1868.
